Being an artist is not all fun and games.  It's not easy and most of the time it feels like a constant juggling act.

Non-artists often think it is - that we just play around in the studio and every piece comes out exactly the way we want it every time.

(I’ll wait while you finish laughing!)

And when you’re a Christian artist, it can be even more confusing!

We have even deeper questions, like:

• How does the Kingdom of God actually work?
• What does God want me to do with this artistic talent He’s blessed me with?
• How am I supposed to create art when I’m already so busy?
• If God gives me my artistic talent, do I need to take classes to improve?
• Does the artist’s journey have to be so lonely?
• How do I renew my mind to be aligned with what God wants for me?
• Can I actually sell the art that God has inspired in me and feel good about it?

As Christian artists, we often feel a tension between using our creative gifting to glorify God...and actually making money while doing it.

Here’s a truth that we often lose sight of - God promises us His provision, and selling our art in the marketplace is one of the ways that provision comes to life.

"But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." - Matthew 6:33 ESV

The more you nurture and grow that calling and the resources He brings you, the more you’ll receive as you continue on your journey!

God has so many wonderful plans for you and your art...if you’re willing to take that next step towards Him and discover it!

In case we haven't met, I'm Matt Tommey...

Back in 2009, I was at the bottom.

I just lost my job, the economy was tanking, money was tight and I was crying out to God for some sort of direction in my life.

Then one night, everything changed.

I woke at 3:09 am with a song playing through my mind about raising up an army like Joel saw.  

And it happened the very next morning - same time, same way.

The second morning, I went down to my studio and God told me,  “Matt, I’ve called you as a father to artists… go the to the nations and raise up an army of artists to reveal my glory in the earth.”

What happened next was nothing short of miraculous. Within a couple of months, I was given an art gallery and started gathering artists. Lives - including my own - began to be restored!

Then God moved my family to Asheville, North Carolina, and told me He was going to use my baskets in this calling to raise up an army of artists.

Over the next ten years, my basketry work began to be recognized all over the world. God showed me how to grow my art business and I started selling my woven sculptures for thousands of dollars.  

Not only did God enable me to grow my business, but He also gave me a platform to start helping other artists do the same through my conferences, books, podcast, and mentoring program.  

Since then, my podcast has reached over a million downloads, my mentoring program has served thousands of students, and my books and conferences have impacted tens of thousands of artists around the world!

Because God showed me how to thrive as a Christian artist, now I have the opportunity to do the same!

Now I know you may be thinking...

But Matt...I don’t have enough time to create as it is!

Here’s the thing...the more you learn to connect with clients in the marketplace and sell your work at prices that generate generous profits, the more time you will have to create the work you love. And isn’t that really what we all want most - more time creating in the studio? 

But Matt...I’m not sure I want to be a full-time artist!

That’s okay!  This is the journey that God has laid out for you, not for anyone else.  But even from a practical perspective...if you can create art that resonates with your audience and sell it at a profit, then you can continue to support your art hobby, meet new people, and enjoy the process (without worrying about dipping into the vacation fund!)

But Matt...I love to create, but I’m afraid I’m not hearing God’s call for me.

I totally get it.  I felt that way for years.  And maybe your “light bulb moment” won’t occur at 3:09 am like mine did.  But this course will teach you how to listen for God’s voice, how to discern when you’re on the right track, and how to create art with God - not for God.

God's not looking for your perfection, He's looking for your "Yes"!

You know, when I start weaving a basket, I don’t know exactly what the finished product will look like.  I’ll get halfway through and decide I don’t like one of my materials.  Or I’ll be inspired to go a different direction.  That's a normal part of the creative process.

In the same way, God isn’t finished with you - nor is He finished with me.

When the Lord calls, we may not see the path laid out before us, but we give Him our "yes" based on His promise to lead us.

We may not see every step... but we trust that the destination is worth it.
